Thank you for visiting my website. My name is Steve Barresi. I hope you enjoy my website. It contains snapshots of my family, personal life and places I have lived or visited. In addition, I have added several new pages to reflect my love for shooting guns, playing in the woods and hunting/fishing. I have password protected the guns, bows and reels page to make it a little harder for people to just surf into. If you are interested in seeing this page, The username and password are both private and will be given to you if you contact me - I have selected this approach as there are some people that are anti-RTKBA and I choose not to enter into a confrontation with those people. If you are offended by any of this stuff, please don't ask for the password.Any suggestions are welcome - and of course, I hope to see you on the water or in the woods!
I am an avid kayaker. I enjoy exposing people to kayaking and the wonderful adventures that kayaking can bring one's way. We used to live in central Connecticut along the shoreline and this is where I began kayaking in 1998. We moved to western NY in October of 2005. We had lived in western NY in the past and this is where my family lives and we own ~33 acres bordering Big Chautauqua Creek. We have a neat little cabin for overnights and shelter when where there. We party and have picnics there all the time, especially during the warmer months. My kayaking playground is primarily Lake Erie which is ~2 miles from our home. This is essentially a very large freshwater sea with a bad attitude. It is known for tremendous mood swings, going from calm to gale force winds with tall, breaking waves in a very short time.
My 'real' profession is as a Physician Assistant, but I enjoy being on the water or in the woods more than anything. I graduated from Daemen College in May 1998 and began practicing in emergency medicine, with per diem work in family practice and occupational medicine. I changed from full time emergency department practice to employee health at a large company in 2006 where I now manage all employee related illnesses, injuries and hiring exams. We hope to also offer primary care in the near future. They have around 1600 employees and for the most part keep me busy. I no longer have to carry a pager, don't have to work weekends, nights or holidays. Even though my main training and experience has been in emergency medicine, this change is helping to give me more free time and a more fixed schedule to spend with family and in the woods or on the water. I still do some emergency medicine per diem as I cant quite get that out of my system.
My favorite boats to paddle are my Valley Qajariaq and Nordkapp Jubilee. Both are around 18 feet long and narrow, at about 20 inches wide. This design makes them fast and very seaworthy, capable of far more than most paddlers are. They are supplied to the USA through the Kayak Centre in Rhode Island. Visit them at www.GROKayaks.com or www.ValleySeakayaks.com. I also paddle Prijon white water boats and am basically from the old school regarding white water - I don't do rodeo or paddle a play boat as of yet.

---- Remember, saftey begins with you ----
Spring weather is here! Summer is almost in sight. If you paddle this time of year, dress for cold water exposure and cold air temperatures, and always carry a spare set of clothes in a dry bag. Not an issue for me as I can not find any open water yet!!!!
Lake Erie is an inland, freshwater play area. It should be considered a freshwater sea, as should all of the gret lakes - they are truley great big bodies of water. Lake Erie, being the shallowist of the great lakes, lends itself to rapid condition changes and waves tend to build quick and unpredictably. This is where I play the most when paddling nowadays.
I kayak for fun!! Do You??
Keep your head above the water --- unless you are like me and agree that water on the brain isn't always a bad thing!!
Two eskimos sitting in a kayak were chilly, but when they lit a fire in the craft, it sank, proving once again that you can't have your kayak and heat it too! 2004 farmers almanac
