2/2010 - I am standing in the water teaching rolling skills (center of photo) - I volunteer for Evergreen Outfitters of Ashville Ny as a instructor and get enjoyment out of teaching other kayaking skills. We do this in the pool at Chautauqua Institution in the winter and in Lake Erie over the summer months.
Eskimo Rolling - This is the ultimate skill that all serious (or not so serious) kayakers desire to learn - Through multiple attempts and a few classes, I have been able to get this down - I now love to roll and you are just as apt to find me upside down as you are to find me upright. Give it a try, it's addicting.>>>>>>>>>
This is another video of me rolling my Nordkapp Jubilee. This was shot by my father on 9/14/2008 in Barcelona Harbor on Lake Erie. It was a windy day as the remmnants of Hurricane Ike were blowing through - the winds picked up all day long.>>>>>>>>>
ROLL, ROLL, ROLL YOUR BOAT.....
DEEP SCULLING - This is a self taught technique that I first read about in Sea Kayaker Magazine several years ago. There was an article that demonstrated the scull and was very wordy about how to do it. It sounded easy, so I made it a goal. I acheived it and have it down as a muscle memory task now. This is my primary rescue maneuver as it takes less time than rolling, is easier to do and is less stressful on my shoulders. Once you get this one down, you will learn to utilize it for rescues and quick cool offs on warm days.>>>>>>>>>
